What is essential in every ipod library?
Songs come and go by the weeks and months, so what’s essential this month might not be essential next month. My essential songs last the years. It’s the kind of songs whereby after listening to the please-don’t-stop-the-music-s and fall-for-you-s of the world, I will come back to because they sound as good as when I first heard them.
Backstreet boys. N’sync. Britney. Westlife. …
HAHA. I know right! Now we look back and laugh at the pop songs of the 90s and then we secretly go home and listen to them. We bob along to them, we know every word, we even know the dance steps - bye bye bye? Hit me baby one more time? You know you know it.
We know Nick, Brian, AJ, Howie and Kevin.
Do you know all the names of band members in Fallout Boy? Good Charlotte? Greenday?
Ok maybe you do. But even if you do, you would ALSO still know the bsb boys. Heh.
The truth of the matter is that a special part of my heart will always belong to the pop era. It is always feel-good, it is always easy to listen to and no other era comes close in terms of impact. I mean, Damon, Rice and I were singing along to Britney’s ‘Sometimes’ and Boyzone’s ‘No Matter’ at BluJazz the other day knowing every word. That has got to say something.
But I guess my real point is that Hagley & Hoyle is my pop music.
It really is the end of an era.
