we discussed about patriarchy in lit class today. and ever since secondary school, i have seen text upon text based on patriarchy or at least the hardly subtle hinting at the perverseness of patriarchy. since this is the case, won't the writings be vaguely matriarchal in the sense that it aims at promoting women's rights?
what if patriarchy was the way it was meant to be? Eve was essentially created out of Adam right? therefore in some way, Adam does have control over Eve. In the lit texts that i studied (bandong and poems by christina rossetti for example), it seems as if females are bought into this patriarchal ideology so much that they don't have a voice for themselves. but the essence of the matter is not whether females can break out of a patriarchal society but rather whether females are comfortable with this patriarchy is it not?
when i go out with LeX* for example, being in a patriarchal society (have u ever seen a female president in Singapore?), he always offers to pay for my things. would i join the feminist movement and insist on going dutch everytime? hah! not even close to likely man. so it seems as if the man is in charge. the man earns the bread, the man pays for the bread, the man fetches the bread to the woman.
if you noticed however, i said "seem". by not doing anything, women actually hold the greater power. and *poof* we're right back where we started into females buying into male ideology. why? because in the process of a patriarchal society, men do all the work, and women sit back and enjoy the benefits. woo!! so which is the smarter gender again??
there are a few setbacks to this theory, but for now everything seems fine and dandy. i think i like this patriarchal society.
