i was looking at the poster of the guru on my wall. jimi mistry in particular. isn't it weird how much more classy and suave he seems when he talks in his normal british accent as opposed to the indian accent he uses in the show?
so what's this unconscious obsession over english and how it's spoken? tash, deb, mag and i used to laugh at chuchu for her bad english all the time. and tash and i especially can't stand people not speaking proper english. we don't only want them to speak proper english, we want them speaking it without a cheena accent. i know it's crappy biased but sometimes it's just unconscious.
my english teacher said that marking a paper with standard english against one with spelling and grammar mistakes is totally different although their points may all be equally valid. even my ICM teacher said that there's this stereotype that english spoken with an american slang is 'the better english'. kai chong said he noticed the newscasters on channel newsasia pronounce zhu rongji as 'jurong gee'.
it's quite sad actually that we would judge people not on the essence of what they are saying but how they say it. but talking about it here it doesn't seem such a biased claim anymore. i guess it's more about presentation. like how you would judge a dusty, dirty beggar more poorly against an armani-clad professional. it's all the same. dang this world is superficial!
my exam is in 2 hrs time and i'm still blogging. surviving on an hour's sleep. gabe the process is complete. full-fledged nerdom. almost anyway! muahahaha...
